Vote for funding for the National Columbus Memorial

For years, the National Christopher Columbus Association has been seeking funding for restoration work on the National Columbus Memorial in front of Washington's Union Station, but the National Park Service budget has not contained such funding because of very tight federal budget constraints in recent years.

Now, however, restoration work could well benefit from funding from the "Partners in Preservation: National Parks" Campaign, which will award $2 million to select historic sites on National Park property. There are 20 projects on the list, and the Columbus Memorial is one of them. Awards of up to $250,000 will go to sites as decided by popular vote.

YOU can vote for the Columbus Memorial, by going to this web address:

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/voteyourpark/

You will be asked to register at that web page, and then vote for up to five sites that are on the list. Voting will continue until July 5, and you can vote every day.

Please take the time to register and vote for the Columbus Memorial (listed as "Columbus Fountain") every day until July 5!
